Sweet Hero Dress

Hero – a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities

Sweet Hero Dress

My Avi girl is one girl-powered chick. She is braver than her brother (sorry, Jude). She loves spicy food and at two years old, will scale the mini climbing wall at the playground without hesitation. She loves going to the doctors because she likes to watch them working. She is curious and headstrong. She also loves purple, painting her toes, dancing, Frozen and dresses.

One of my major parenting goals is to help my little girl be whoever she wants to be. So when she picked out this Wonder Woman fabric at Joann’s and asked me to make her a dress I couldn’t say no. A strong female superhero plus a chance to make my baby a dress? Yes, please!

I stitched up this dress the other night and when I gave it to Avi her face lit up. She was so excited about it that she put it on immediately and insisted on wearing it all day, pitching a two-year-old-fit when it was time to put on jammies.

I drafted this pattern with inspiration from her Space Explorer Dress (yet to be blogged.) It was supposed to have a heart cutout in the back, instead of the upside-down drop shape that I ended up with, but I cut it weirdly and ended up scratching the heart idea. I am still attempting to make a heart back dress (hopefully, I learned from my mistakes) and will blog about that when it’s done.

I am in the process of figuring out how to make my patterns digital (any tips?) and I will hopefully be able to offer this Sweet Hero Dress pattern, along with a bunch of others soon. Who might be interested in digital sewing patterns?

Let’s hear it for raising strong girls!

And for making a Sweet Hero Dress!
